Rental terms and conditions
The conditions under which SEO S.R.L. hires bicycles through pugliabiketour.com. Written to be read, not to be survived.
The specific figures for your hire — total price and delivery fee, one for each leg — are confirmed to you in writing before the hire begins. Nothing on this page overrides what is in that written confirmation, and nothing appears in the confirmation that isn’t explained here.
There is no security deposit. We ask for a copy of an identity document, and on longer hires sometimes a small bank transfer instead. We do not hold a sum against damage and we do not block anything on a card.
1. Who you are contracting with
SEO S.R.L., Via Roma 163, 73021 Calimera (LE), Italy. VAT 05151910758, share capital €10,000, REA LE - 345763, registered with the Lecce Company Register. These terms are governed by Italian law.
2. Who may ride
The hirer must be at least 18 years old. Bikes may be ridden by the people named in the booking; lending the bike to somebody else, or riding it in a competitive event, ends the hire agreement and any goodwill in it.
A helmet is supplied with every bike. Italian law does not require adults to wear one on the road; we supply it because we would rather you had it.
3. How the price is calculated
The daily rate depends on the total length of the hire and applies to the whole of it — a seven-day hire is billed at €40 per day throughout, not at a mixture of bands. Rates and supplements are published in full on the prices page.
The rate is set by the length booked. If you hand the bike back early, the hire is still billed as booked: an eight-day hire returned after five days is charged at the eight-day arrangement, not re-rated to the five-day one. This is the only clause on this site that costs you money if you change your mind, and it is here in plain sight rather than in a footnote.
Extending a hire is the opposite case and works in your favour: if the extension crosses into a lower band, the lower rate applies to the whole hire.
4. Delivery and collection
Collection and return are free at Lecce, San Foca and Calimera. Delivery and collection anywhere else are charged on distance, number of bikes and length of hire, per leg — delivery is one leg and collection is another — and both figures are quoted to you before you confirm; that figure does not change afterwards unless you change the arrangement.
If you move the collection point mid-hire and the new point is materially further away, the fee is recalculated and told to you before we travel. If we cannot reach an agreed point at an agreed time for reasons on our side, we come to you or we refund the difference.
5. The bike’s condition, at both ends
The bike is handed over in working order, sized to you, with the kit listed on the prices page. We go over it with you at handover: that is the moment to say something isn’t right, and it costs nothing to fix then.
At collection we check the bike over with you present. Nothing gets raised after you have left that you were not shown. Normal wear from a week of riding — tyre wear, brake pad wear, a scuffed bar tape, a chain that needs cleaning — is expected and not charged for.
6. Damage, theft and loss
You are responsible for the bike while it is with you. In practice that means three things.
- Lock it. A lock is supplied. A bike stolen while unlocked is treated differently from one stolen while locked, which is the normal position everywhere and the reason the lock is in the kit.
- Damage beyond normal wear — a bent wheel, a broken derailleur, crash damage — is charged at the cost of repair or replacement parts, shown to you as an itemised figure, not as a round number.
- Theft or total loss is charged at the residual value of the bike. Report it to the local police (Carabinieri or Polizia) and to us as soon as you safely can; a police report is needed for any insurance you may hold.
Punctures are not damage. The repair kit and the spare tube are there for exactly that, and using them is not something you will be charged for.
7. Insurance
The hire does not include personal insurance, and we say so early rather than in small print. Your own travel and medical cover is your responsibility, and it is worth checking that it covers cycling before you leave home — some policies exclude it, and some exclude it only for e-bikes.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that Italian law does not allow to be limited.
8. What we sell and what we do not
This is a bicycle hire with delivery, collection and a route file. It is not a package holiday within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2015/2302 and the Italian Tourism Code, because we do not sell or arrange accommodation, meals, transport or a guided tour, and we take no commission on any of them.
That distinction matters to you as well as to us: the protections attached to a package tour do not apply here, and neither do its costs. You keep control of your own bookings and you carry your own risk on them.
There is no guided or accompanied option. See how it works for why.
9. Cancellation and changes
Tell us as early as you can. The specific cancellation window and any charge that applies are stated in your written confirmation before you commit — we will not confirm a hire without them being clear to you. Changes to dates, bikes or delivery points are handled case by case and, where the change costs us nothing, they cost you nothing.
If we cannot supply the bike we confirmed — mechanical failure, or something outside our control — we supply an equivalent or better bike at no extra cost, or refund the hire in full. We do not substitute downwards and charge you the same.
10. Riding the route
The GPX track and the stage notes are information, not a guarantee. Road surfaces change, roads close, and weather is weather. You choose your own route on the day and you ride at your own risk, obeying Italian road traffic law.
Where our pages give distances, gradients, surfaces or wind expectations, we mark clearly whether they are measured or expected. We would rather tell you what we don’t know than round it up into something that reads better.
11. Complaints
Write to salentobikerental@gmail.com or call +39 320 4864478. If we have got something wrong we would rather hear it from you than read it somewhere later. Consumers resident in the EU may also use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform.
